Idaho GOP Adopts Presidential Caucus to be held on Super Tuesday

Boise, Idaho – On Saturday, the Idaho Republican State Central Committee, the governing body of the Idaho GOP, met in Moscow, Idaho and voted in support of a change to State Party Rules that will move Idaho’s presidential candidate selection to Super Tuesday and conduct the nominating process through a county by county caucus system. Only Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina will hold earlier nomination contests. Idaho has 32 delegates at the 2012 Republican National Convention, which is more than Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.

“This should be considered an open invitation to all Republican Presidential candidates who are interested in securing the Republican Party’s nomination in 2012,” stated Chairman Norm Semanko. Semanko continued, “The Idaho Republican Party welcomes all Republican candidates to visit our great State, to discuss issues important to Idahoans, and to campaign for Idaho’s 32 delegates to the Republican National Convention.”

The Idaho Republican Party Executive Committee also voted in support of a motion to conduct a Straw Poll in conjunction with the Winter State Central Committee Meeting the weekend of January 6th and 7th in Boise, Idaho. More details will follow in the coming months.

Redistricting Is Underway

Redistricting is the process of drawing new congressional and legislative districts following the results of the decennial federal census. Drawing new congressional and legislative districts every ten years ensures that each vote counts as much as the next vote, also known as equal representation. In Idaho, these districts are drawn by a commission of six non-legislator citizens.

This link, http://legislature.idaho.gov/redistricting/redistricting.htm, provides information relating to the process of redistricting, current legislative and congressional maps, an overview of the requirements to redistrict, news and updates for the current redistricting cycle, and historical information. The Idaho Legislative Services Office, a non-partisan service agency, provides administrative and technical support to the Redistricting Commission.
